This event is meant to celebrate mountain biking for students who have already discovered it, as well as be a great introduction to students who have not yet tried it. It is hosted by experienced mountain bikers who want to introduce this fun and healthy activity to others – it is all volunteer and they do not profit from the event. The event is for all students in Eastern Ontario from grade school to high school.
EVENT DATE: May 18, 2018
Why should a student attend this particular event? The Mountain Bike Challenge is a challenge to students to get out and try a new activity – or challenge friends to try it with them. It is perfect for a fun or first mountain biking experience. It is not about results or winning, it is about doing the challenge. The event has both individual events as well as an optional team event (relay).
The event will again be held at Limerick Forest, north of Prescott because the course is beginner friendly yet fun for all. Students as young as 5 have participated.
Since the event has independent insurance a student does not require official school participation to attend. Many teachers who bring students do not mountain bike themselves but enjoy exposing their students to this healthy and active lifestyle. Volunteers run the event and do not earn money from it.
Any working big tire bike and a helmet (and signed entry forms and fee) are all that is required to do this event - no fancy stuff required. We even had a unicycle compete one year! The event start times are designed to separate riders before they get to the singletrack and then riders can negotiate the course at their own pace. The course is designed to be safe and fun. There is also a separate trail that people can ride all day.
Come try the challenge! Hope to see you out it’s going to be a great day!
