This event is meant to celebrate mountain biking for students who have already discovered it, as well as be a great introduction to students who have not yet tried it. It is hosted by experienced mountain bikers who want to introduce this fun and healthy activity to others – it is all volunteer and they do not profit from the event. The event is for all students in Eastern Ontario from grade school to high school.
EVENT DATE: May 19, 2023 Why should a student attend this particular event? It is a mountain bike event designed to get you on a bike. It is perfect for a fun or first mountain biking experience. It is not about results or winning, it is about doing the challenge. The event has both individual events as well as an optional team event and skills challenge. Mountain biking is a great way to have fun, great for mental health and getting exercise. This is an activity that can last a lifetime. Over the 15 years we have run this annual event it has demonstrated to be safe and fun for students as well as an inspiration for many. Sure, some of the event is a competition, but it is not about results or winning, it is about doing the challenge. There are individual events as well as an optional team event. There is a skills challenge which is easy and fun for all to do. The fastest rider does not win! The event will again be held at Limerick Forest, north of Prescott because the course is beginner friendly yet fun for all. More than once, a student has doner 'the Challenge' - and they weren't even 5 years old yet! For many high school students this is their first time on a mountain bike in the woods. One participant went on to the Olympics. So you can see how this event is for everyone. The event has independent insurance, so a student does not require official school participation to attend. Many teachers who bring students do not mountain bike themselves but enjoy exposing their students to this healthy and active lifestyle. Have your teacher show the video above to your class or share it online so other students will see how much fun mountain biking is. Any working big tire bike and a helmet (and signed entry forms and fee) are all that is required to do this event - no fancy stuff required. We even had a unicycle compete one year! The event start times are designed to separate riders before they get to the singletrack and then riders can negotiate the course at their own pace. The course is designed to be safe for newbies, and fun to shred at speed. There is also a separate trail that people can ride all day. Come try the challenge! Hope to see you out, it’s going to be a great day! If you like this event, Kingston now has one too! Kingston Ontario School Mountain Bike Challenge – MT Adventures Any questions? Please ask!
